my god is so big (sostrong&somighty!)

OHMY I feel terriblyloved and favoured atm…

Z and I were on the way to Vivocity for a quick dinner today when he noticed something wrong with the van he was driving. We were cruising down the AYE expressway from Clementi when he first remarked that the brakes seemed to be a little faulty. However, it was just a fleeting thought and we thought nothing much about it.

We did notice that the vehicle moving a tad slower than usual tho.. After getting onto the expressway, we laughed when Z realised he had left his handbrake on. It was no wonder the van was moving so slowly!

Just as we were nearing the Alexandra Rd exit, we swerved onto the first lane to try and catch the exit only to discover that the brakes were not working at all!!. Thankfully, Z was calm and I was too stunned to panic as everything happened way too quickly. I can only say that loosing control of your vehicle while on an expressway with no end in sight is v.frightening!.

Anywaysss, to cut the long story short, we were well aware that there were angels in our midst because:

1. We were on the AYE during the peak hour. Yet the lane we were in when the brakes gave way had noticably less cars and we were able to let the van careen off safely to a stop. It was almost impossible to stop the van from moving unless we hit a tree or barrier…so this was god-working in itself.

2. The handbrake was on the whole time we were driving so the van could not go any faster! We had no idea how the handbrake could have been accidentally left on, but I know there’s no such things as coincidences!

3. A toll truck appeared almost immediately/out of nowhere after we got stranded and he said he was just ‘passing by’ when he saw us. He took the van to the garage in Thomson for a mere $50 when others we called said it would cost $150.

4. If we were going downhill / were on a slope when it happened, the situation might have been v. different.

I am just grateful + v.thankful that we were protected fm danger. : ) So credit where is due- I know you’ve got me in the palm of your Hand. Yay.

Yip Man / Ip Man 葉問

Donnie Yen is absolutely brilliant. Now, I rarely gush over kungfu flicks but Ip Man or 葉問 the movie about the Wing Chun Kung Fu master of the same name is a gem! Donnie Yen was zen-liked and perfect in the role. I remember him in Hero but alws thought he was v.underrated in Hollywood.

Without giving anything away, here are some interesting facts about the flick that I gathered fm various sources:

  • Unlike other kungfu flicks that tend to dramatise the martial arts for more flashy and exciting choreography (eg. Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh and even Jet Lee – altho’ he showed flashes of the real stuff), Donnie Yen portrays the Wing Chun kung fu accurately on screen. It was incredible.
  • It revolves around the true/central story of Master Ip Man also known as Yip Man (cantonese for Ye4 Wen2) who sparred with the Japanese during the Japanese Occupation. However the later part of the movie was fictionalised for a better ending.
  • Unlike the movie, Yip Man was a police man and his two sons were teenagers at that time.
  • A sequel is already in the midst of preproduction to capture the later half of Ip Man when he moved to HK and his famous protegee ____.

Merry Christmas!

Everyone came dressed up as Christmas icons etc. this year.

This is my very lastminute outfit as one of the 3 wise men. : ) Di and I made my beard out of cotton wool (!!) and mom loaned me her outfit and some towels for the dress-skirt. Here I am holding a star.

From Left- A hastily wrapped candycane, a dinosaur, Christmas TV Reruns, Gingerbread man, Three Wise Men.

Dana’s christmas dinosaur costume was the most sought after!  It was vv cosy and everyone wanted to try it on. : ) She was also a legend and helped us out with the food.

The prize for best effort goes to Denice who hand-made /sewed her own Gingerbread Outfit! She even sewed a gingerbread face to go along with it and bought her brown cloth fm Chinatown!!!

Below: Di steals my starry wand and gingerbread man grows a beard.

The Christmas Loot!

Our dinner spread of turkey, chicken, mushroom soup, gourmet sandwiches, sushi… + some Christmas carolling for the whole famiy. It was the first time all of us got together to sing (!) harhar.

Here we are opening the presents. Yay!

Below is Delia wearing my sister’s outfit – a telly showing ‘Christmas Reruns’ eg. HomeAlone/ LoveActually etc. and she had a remote control! hurhur! Delia (my cousin here) was a candy cane but unraveled herself to try on the telly. It was heaps fun!

Merry Christmas!

May we always find time to revel in the silly and everyday things in life.

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, never let it go away

How I caught the Christmas Flu Bug is beyond me!

BOOO! Besides the fact that I am only 24 hours away to my house party and cannot taste / breathe from my nose, I am feeling mildly happyhigh from medication. Ugh I hope the lethargy goes away because I am dangerously behind my christmas shopping and costume-hunting.

Have a great one everybody!

P.s/ Debs!! I’m so glad you found THE ONE!  WELCOME HOME!
