I’m still v.far from being an environmental activist hurhur – but I found myself amongst earthday celebrations while hvg dinner at the esplanade… so that shd account for stg !
Banks + buildings in the cbd turned off their facade lights at 8.3o for abt an hour. and everyone cheered. Vamusing lol.
There was also a band present singing radio friendly hits! Not sure what they were called- but the singer had a pretty good voice!
We didn’t even realise it was a special event until I noticed people were hanging around waiting for something to happen. There were crowds + families around Esplanade with candles and torchlights (!). Andandand, Z and I chanced upon the most hilarious radio call-in:
DJ: Hi, thank you for calling! How are you celebrating Earth Hour?
Caller: My mom is having tuition so we can’t turn off our lights! But I’m calling you from my closet now because I really wanted to be a part of this event! It’s really dark here! I hope I can survive the 1hr!

I was laughing so hard by the end of that conversation.
For whatitsworth, I heard there were many interesting events happening around the island !. Some schools/ community centres became venues for free movie screenings like Wall-E etc.!

I had a great time meeting Duffy last Sunday!
Now, I must confess that I didn’t really know what to expect when I got to the hotel. While I enjoy her songs and I think she has a great voice(!), overnight starlets tend to be diva like (at times)!! And if she was anything like her ‘voice’ – sassy, brash, -I figured she might be a little bit difficult..?
Ohohoh how wrong I was! She was chirpy and beautiful and ever so down-to-earth. I was blown awayyyyyyy. I wish I can tell you a lil’ bit more abt wat she said and how she responded. (It’s p&c for now till the article get published!)
But you know what? Duffy – in all her 24 years- is v.endearing. She replies with the cutest English accent and is quite a thinker + vmatured for her age. Many say it’s cos’ she’s still a pretty new singer which equates to being humble And nice.
+: I’ve met a young + newly minted singer who a) got famous overnight b) has a realllly famous (violent?) bf and c) had the most widely played song on radio then – AND she was a nightmare. So.
Congrats Duffy on yr wonderful success!
